Collaborative working is key to supporting teachers as schools re-open, says GTC Scotland

The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTC Scotland) is working collaboratively to help and support teachers, children and young people and other stakeholders to ensure a safe return to schools.

GTC Scotland is playing a key role on the Scottish Government’s Covid-19 Education Recovery Group and is represented on a number of its associated workstreams, which have been tasked with plotting a way out of lockdown for teachers, children and young people.

The Scottish Government set out its phased approach to lifting lockdown measures yesterday, Thursday 21 May.

Ken Muir, Chief Executive and Registrar said, “Over the last two months teachers’ commitment, skills and professionalism have shined through as they have worked tirelessly to ensure the delivery of high-quality education to children and young people. Scottish society owes teachers a deep debt of gratitude for all they have done to support the continuation of teaching and learning in these difficult times.

“Registrants and learners are at the core of our work as the independent professional body for teaching in Scotland. We are working collaboratively with partners across the education sector to ensure schools are as safe as possible when they re-open to staff and all children and young people.”
